Eeehh… well, keeping up with my journal was definitely not something I accomplished in 2008 (though I did do better than in 2007).

So, here are the results of my 2008 resolutions:

1. Enroll in ballet academy. Enrolled twice; finally assigned a class!
2. Get a publishing deal. Lost everything in computer crash… nothing to publish.
3. Complete an altered book project. Done; see?
4. Start my webcomic 'VoksHeks.' Two chapters of script and several pages completed.
5. Get a booth at Art in the Park. Lost everything in computer crash… nothing to sell.
6. Achieve perfect middle split. Not there, yet. Closer… but no.
7. Learn to read sheet music for piano. Still learning. Arabic makes more sense.
8. Save up enough money for down-payment on dream acreage. Saved the money but they sold the land prior. *sad*
9. Volunteer at (Simply Cats). Such wonderful people!
10. Keep online life organized and up-to-date. Yes and no. This was a stupidly worded goal.

Now I’ve got to start working on my 2009 goals:

1. Set up Etsy shop.
2. Launch personal website (finally!).
3. Have updated logo/name copyrighted.
4. Participate in each 2009 Princess Challenge.
5. Send a hand-written letter to a friend each month.
6. Knit or crochet a sweater.
7. Complete an embroidered sampler.
8. Build hutch for my media cabinet.
9. Read ten biographies.
10. Complete Castilian program.

One of the things that will help me complete my new list is breaking the tasks into smaller goals to be completed each month for a fully-realized, year-end accomplishment. For example, in January I’ll finish the graphics for my website and in February I’ll complete the HTML so, if all goes according to plan, the site should be ready for launch by March.

I also plan to make little updates here to chart my progress and keep myself motivated.

Happy, productive 2009!

On Sunday I received a message from my boss with instructions not to come in on Monday because there’d be no place to sit.

Apparently, a water pipe broke on Saturday (right above my desk!) and flooded our office and the two floors below us. This is ironic because, the day before it happened, the property manager had done the final check of the building remodel that’s been going on since November. They updated and prettified the interiors but failed to address the ongoing plumbing and ventilation problems and now it looks like a hurricane landed in our office.

I came in today but I think we’ll all be leaving early ‘cause there’s not much work we can do. It's freezing and the stench is incredible. They’ve assured me it wasn’t a sewage pipe but I’m not sure that I want to know what kind of water it was. All the furniture and the three tons of filing cabinets are on raised casters so the carpet can dry but there’s still debris everywhere. We’re supposed to have a cleaning crew take care of the majority of the disaster but all salvaging will be up to us. I get itchy just thinking about it. Yuck.

Amazingly, not one piece of electrical equipment was permanently damaged. I had to resist hugging my computer monitor this morning; it wasn’t that hard as it was still covered in plaster dust and smelled like gym socks. Oh, well- he’s alive, so I’m happy. My desk is quite water-logged (as well as all the paper items I had sitting on it) but it looks pretty good considering the whole ceiling came down on it. Still hope I get a new one, though. ^^’

My boss, Steve, says the cleaning crew had a good laugh at my décor. The pipe that broke was directly in front of my favorite wall-hanging, a piece of carved wood reading ‘water’ in Chinese. I guess they ignored the one below it that says ‘fire.’

The only thing I’m really worried about right now is mold. And maybe the giant, gaping hole above me- I keep expecting something to fall out of it. Like spiders. Or birds, for some illogical and highly paranoid reason.

Anyway, yeah. This week’s off to a great start. At least I got Monday off. ~_^

One of my resolutions for 2007 was to create a Livejournal account.  And I did that... I just never posted anything in it. ^^'  So, for the very first post in my journal, I think my list of resolutions for 2008 is absolutely fitting.

Before 2009, I resolve to:

1.  Enroll in ballet academy.
2.  Get a publishing deal.
3.  Complete an altered book project.
4.  Start my webcomic 'VoksHeks.'
5.  Get a booth at Art in the Park.
6.  Achieve perfect middle split.
7.  Learn to read sheet music for piano.
8.  Save up enough money for down-payment on dream acreage.
9.  Volunteer at Simply Cats (
http://www.simplycats.org/).
10.  Keep online life organized and up-to-date.

Most years, my lists have a hundred or more items to check off.  I usually only complete three or four.  So this year, I've decided simplicity is key and that I'll focus on ten things that are really important to me.  Though I'm fairly certain this list will not be seen by many, I've heard from several people that posting your goals in a public place makes success more likely because you'll be held to a certain degree of accountability if you fail.

Hoping that's true...
